Letter to Sarah Tarbox from cousin Warren Brown, 1848

This letter to Sarah Tarbox speaks of homesickness from her cousin, Warren Brown, who was born on December 21, 1818, and who was living in Chepachet, Rhode Island. Warren Brown had lived with the Tarbox family in Westport, Maine; and he attended Kents Hill School with Sarah's brother, Valentine Tarbox. He refers to visiting his brother, Silvester, in Kennebunk. Silvester (Sylvester) Brown who was born August 30, 1821 and was a distinguished mariner who settled in Kennebunkport after his marriage in 1847. A biography in Leading Business Men of Kennebunkport published in 1888 describes his early life.

Sarah Tarbox was born January 3, 1831 and was the eighth child of Mary "Polly" Brown and Samuel Tarbox, the first First Selectman, a postmaster and wealthy land trader and fishing merchant of Westport Island, Maine.
