Description

This image shows the bookplate that was pasted inside the front cover of a textbook used at the S Road School in South Bristol during the 1930s.

At the S Road School, also known as the Roosevelt School, the same textbooks were used for about 15 years.

The last entry on the bookplate to this 1926 book, "Health and Good Citizenship" (by J. Andress and W. Evans) is 1940, just three years before the one-room school itself closed for good in 1943.

The students assigned this textbook were: Doris Thompson (1931), Carrie Thompson (1933), George Rice (1936), and Donald Thompson (1940).

Hundreds of textbooks like this one, published largely in the 1920s and 1930s, were found stored in the attic of the S Road School prior to its restoration.
