Coast Guard boat breaking through the ice, ca. 1934

Contributed by Friendship Museum

Description

A crowd of locals stand at the end of the Jameson & Wotton Wharf to watch the Coast Guard boat cut its way through the ice. It was here to make Friendship harbor navigable during a cold winter freeze. The two onlookers in the foreground are probably standing on the ice, not the shore.
