Description
A stereoview shows Libby Prison, one of the prisoner of war camps operated by the Confederacy during the Civil War.
Most of the prisoners were Union officers. Because the prison was in the Confederate capital of Richmond, it was thought to be a good place to hold officers, from whom information might be gathered.
It was notoriously overcrowded, unsanitary, and had no glass in windows.
