Blasting in Quarry, Barnard, 1951

Contributed by Monson Historical Society

Description

The dynamite blast captured in this photograph clears debris and exposes the first workable material in this formerly abandoned mine. The power shovel located in the left hand portion of the photograph, barely visible through the smoke and slate dust, was used to clear away the rubble as the men proceeded to find viable slate for market. Prior to the arrival of the power shovel men would have had to clear away the debris manually.

This photograph is number eight in a series of nine taken at the Barnard Quarry.
