Description

The General Stores building at the Navy Yard, Portsmouth, N.H. was the meeting place of the Russian and Japanese Peace Commission in 1905. On Sept. 5, 1905 the Russian and Japanese Peace delegations signed a peace treaty to end hostilities of the Russo-Japanese War, 1904-1905. The negotiations took place at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Kittery, Maine at the invitation of President Theodore Roosevelt. This is part of the Susan Ricker Knox Collection.
