John Plummer, dressed as Uncle Sam, stands with his wife, Florence, also in costume, on the occasion of the town of Hartland's 150th anniversary. They are in front of Plummer's business, the Hartland Emporium, a hardware store housed in the former Park House, a prominent building on Park Street. Note the "150" sign in the window.

Uncle Sam participated with other adult marchers in a "Senior Parade" through town to celebrate the sesquicentennial on the Saturday morning of the three-day celebration, which took place June 26-28, 1970.
