Description
US Ski Team member Bob Cochran of Richmond, Vermont leaves the starting gate of the downhill course on a training run during the February, 1971 World Cup ski races, held at Sugarloaf.
Bob was one of four family members who were on the US Ski Team. His sisters Marilyn and Barbara Ann also competed in the World Cup races. Younger sister Lindsey was a promising junior racer who later became a US Ski Team member. The Cochran family still is heavily involved in ski racing with the next generation now competing. The family still operates a rope tow ski area in Vermont. Race starter Al Pire, in hood and goggles, looks on. Like most race officials at the 1971 World Cup, Pire was a volunteer.
