Description

Annah Butler Richardson, left, and Emily, Annah's Norweigan teacher, stand side by side in a photo taken in Hale, Norway, during the summer of 1917. Annah and her son, Albert, left Moscow for Norway due to the turmoil in the Russian capital. Arthur Richardson, an agent for the Chesebrough Mfg. Co., stayed behind to tend to business.

To avoid the Russian Revolution, the Richardsons were forced to escape to the east on the Trans-Siberian Railroad disguised as peasants. From Russia they traveled to China and Japan, and returned to the U. S. in late 1918. Annah and her Husband Arthur were natives of Rockland, Maine.
