Col. Neal Dow on transfer of wagoner, New Orleans, 1862

Description

Col. Neal Dow of Portland, commander of the 13th Maine Infantry Regiment, wrote to Acting Brig. Gen. George F. Shepley, also of Portland, who commanded the 3rd Bridgade, asking him to take a wagoner, Nathaniel Walker of Portland, into brigade service.

Dow wrote that Walker was very competent but did not earn enough in the regiment to support his family.
