Dodge Department Store building, Lubec, 1975, 1975

Contributed by Lubec Historical Society

Description

The Dodge Department Store occupied this building from the earliest decade of the 20th century. At the date of this photograph Eastern Electronics utilized the store. Lack of traffic and the long low shadows indicate early morning as the time of this photo, justifying the “Closed” sign on the door. Centered above the second story windows are an alarm bell and what appears to be a small loudspeaker. Note the late 19th Century false front with corbels supporting horizontal cornice. still extant on the vacant, derelict building in 2012. Number 2 in a series of five 1975 Water Street photographs.
