A gathering of Civil War veterans and their families pose for a group photograph in front of the West Surry School. In addition to being used as a school this building functioned as a church and community center until the early 1930s when the Saunders family purchased it as a reunion hall. It was used by the community until approximately 1970 when it fell into disrepair. The building burned in the early 1970s.
