Letter from Wm. Haley Jr. to his daughter, Elzira, 1865

Contributed by Sebago Historical Society

Description

Haley, now camped in Winchester VA, writes that the box he was expecting has not come and he fears it “has gone up the spout.” He asks for her mother to send a pair of stockings and a pair of mittens.

He describes his new winter quarters, a tent 20 feet wide and seven feet high with a fireplace in the side and room for 8 men.

He mentions that Elzira’s Uncle Charles has come to visit with another friend, Kollock who is going on a home furlough the next day.
