Description

The caption reads, "Public library, Machias, Maine." The Porter Memorial Library was originally established in the early 1800s, but it wasn't a "public" library at that time. Boston architect George Clough designed the library building and Marshfield granite was used. It opened to the public in 1893.

The Tichnor Brothers printing company published this type of postcard circa 1930-1945.
