Cow Barn, Alfred Shakers, ca. 1905

Still remembered with a great deal of pride by those who grew up at the Alfred Shaker Village, the 1833 Cow Barn was for many years the largest barn in the State of Maine.

Measuring 150 feet in length, the building was used for milking cows and storing hay. The barn still stands (2002).

The trees in the foreground are part of the apple orchard.
