Description

Rockwood, Maine, beside Moosehead Lake, was home to Inns and camps for the many visitors to this 40 x 20 mile long lake. At the time this photograph was taken, the Maine Central Railroad had a station at Rockwood. This photograph is part of the Wittemann collection which is a large set of photographs taken by members of the Wittemann family and made into postcards and sold in batches to businesses in Maine. The Wittemanns themselves were photographers, but they also bought the rights to photographs of local photographers to use for their postcards.
