Boston & Maine Railroad's engine 'Comet', ca. 1870

Description

Hinkley Locomotive Co. of Boston built the Number 67 "Comet" for the Boston & Maine Railroad in 1873. The steam locomotive and scrapped 1894.

The Portland Company, an iron foundry, built locomotives and various other engines, as well as repairing them. This photograph of the "Comet" was among the Portland Co. collections and may have been repaired at the Portland facility.
