Description
This dramatic view from Campobello Island shows the Lubec waterfront and skyline. A passenger ship is docked at the Eastern Steam Ship Company wharf, which appears to be the S.S. Governor Dingley, a steel-hull screw-driven vessel built in 1899 in Chester, PA. Nelson Dingley served as Maine's governor for one term, 1874-76. One of the Lubec/North Lubec/Eastport/Campobello ferries is visible in the water near the center. The tallest structure on the skyline is the Congregational Church steeple. Note the silhouetted water tower left of the steamship.
