Portland Lodge 218 IOBB minutes, 1874

Contributed by Maine Historical Society

The first page of the Portland Lodge #218 I.O.B.B. minutes book lists the names of petitioners for memberships in the organization that became B'nai B'rith, a Jewish service organization founded in New York City.

B'nai B'rith means "children of the covenant."

Among other activities, the Portland Lodge purchased the land that became the Smith Street Cemetery in Portland.
