Description
Three steel, screw-driven steamships, Calvin Austin, Governor Cobb, and Governor Dingley, sailed from Boston to Portland, Eastport, Lubec, and St. John, New Brunswick from about 1901 to 1931. Calvin Austin was President of the Eastern Steamship Company, formed by a merger of the Eastern Steam Ship Co. with other lines. During World War I the Austin and Cobb were taken by the Navy for training ships. Photographic postcard bearing a Lubec postmark dated July 27, 1912.
