Decorated for the Lubec Centennial celebration on July 4, 1911, the center building here housed the Pike Grocery. Note the cans stacked in the window of this concrete block structure. The second floor housed the IORM hall. The Improved Order of Red Men was a patriotic, fraternal organization patterned after the Iroquois Confederation’s democratic governing body. The IORM Band was a popular source of live music in Lubec around the tuyrn of the 20th Century. The building to the left housed a hardware store and at one time U.S. Customs. The Mowry building on the right is the only building still standing a hundred years later in 2011. This is a photographic postcard bearing a Lubec postmark dated March 24, 1913.
