Description

Maine artist Mildred Giddings Burrage (1890-1983), originally from Portland, was raised in Kennebunkport, and later lived in Wiscasset. She studied art from an early age, including in France just before the First World War.

Especially interested in maps, Burrage based many of her works throughout her extensive career on cartographic designs. She is remembered for her handkerchief map of Washington, D.C. which she based on a 1792 map of the city.
