Mildred Giddings Burrage (1890-1983), a native of Portland, who was raised in Kennebunkport, studied art from an early age.
Especially interested in maps, she created a handkerchief map of Washington, D.C., that was based on a 1792 map. Other artworks also were inspired by maps.
