Description

The painting depicts Cushing Island in Portland Harbor and prominently features the first Ottawa House, a summer resort hotel. The first Ottawa House, built in 1858 by Lemuel Cushing, burned in 1888 and was rebuilt. The second Ottawa House burned in 1917 and was not rebuilt.
