Theatre program advertising, Lubec, 1940, 1940

Contributed by Lubec Historical Society

Description

The Lubec Theatre exhibited movies in the wooden building once the Knights of Pythias Hall on Pleasant Street adjacent to Monument Park. Photographs of the hall from 1911 and 1912 show a banner reading “Motion Pictures” on the building’s side. The 1956 Yearbook of Motion Pictures quotes an MGM report ca. 1947 indicating that the theatre seated 350, later reduced to 300. A daughter of the owner of the Eastport Sentinel newspaper, Marjorie Nutt (b. 1882), is listed as owner of the theatre but dates remain unknown. The building later burned.
