Sgt. Horace White from Philadelphia hospital, 1863

Description

Sgt. Horace M. White of Co. E, Maine 1st Cavalry, wrote to his sister in Houlton about his move from a field hospital in Virginia to the U.S. Hospital Chestnut Hill in Philadelphia.

White was injured when his gun accidentally discharged and had been hospitalized for several months.

He described the hospital and what he had heard of his regiment.
