Description

This ambrotype portrait probably is Maria Generson, who married Mr. Goddard.

The ambrotype, invented in 1854, eventually came to hold a place of prominence over its predecessor, the daguerreotype, in part because ambrotypes were made on glass plates instead of silver, and therefore cost less than daguerreotypes.
