Noah Parkman request for military promotion, Hallowell, 1814

Description

Noah Parkman of Hallowell wrote to Col. Isaac Lane of the 33rd U.S. Infantry in Saco, with a plea for a promotion.

Parkman noted that he enlisted as a sergeant and was told he could get a commission as an ensign or lieutenant if he obtained certain recommendations. He wrote that the promotion would help him get 20-25 new enlistments.
