Description

Francis Bennoch, treasurer of the Longfellow Memorial Committee in London, wrote to Josiah Pierce (1827-1913), who was working on behalf of Anne Longfellow Pierce and other members of the Longfellow family to secure for the Maine Historical Society a collection of letters committee members wrote in support of placing a bust of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow at Poet's Corner in Westminster Abbey.

Bennoch wrote that to his surprise, the letters had been given to Henry O. Houghton of Boston. Bennoch had talked to Houghton and told him the final depository was yet to be determined and would depend on the views of the Longfellow family.
