Description

Josiah Pierce (1827-1913) of London wrote to his aunt Anne Longfellow Pierce (1810-1901) in Portland, thanking her for her kindness to his son, Josiah Jr. (Joe).

He wrote that Joe had sent him a "photograph of his sketch of the open door leading into the garden [at the Wadsworth-Longfellow House], and it seemed to me just the same as it was on summer afternoons more than thirty years ago."

He wrote that it seemed impossible that his son was older than he was when he lived with his aunt while studying law and practicing in Portland in the mid 1850s.

He also wrote that he was looking forward to Samuel Longfellow's memoir of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Both Samuel and Henry were brothers of Anne.
