Description

Josiah Pierce of Gorham sold his niece, Phebe Sanborn of Baldwin, all of his holdings in Baldwin, his ancestral home. Pierce, a lawyer and probate court judge, experienced financial problems late in his life.

Phebe Sanborn, a widow, had been living in the Pierce homestead in Baldwin with her aunt, Hannah Pierce (1788-1873), for a number of years. Her uncle owned property in Baldwin other than that on which the house was located.
