Marshall Phillips from Spotsylvania, 1864

Description

Pvt. Marshall Phillips of Co. K of the 5th Maine Regiment wrote from Spotsylvania County, Virginia, to his wife, Diana in Auburn about the recent campaign.

He said that since May 4, the regiment had lost half of its members to death or injury.

He wrote, "Lee has intrenched himself in and around Spotsylvania Court House it seems as if this is to be a continued campain untill our time expirs it looks hard."
