Description
Hopley Yeaton’s temporary grave a few yards from the Keepers’ House at West Quoddy Head Lighthouse is covered. In his last years, living in North Lubec, Yeaton joined other Lubeckers in urging Congress to fund a lighthouse on this site at the entrance to Lubec Channel. Their efforts came to fruition in 1808 when the first light tower was erected here, three years before Yeaton’s death.
