Hopley Yeaton reburial, Lubec, 1974

Description

U.S. Coast Guard sought a court order for removal of remains of Hopley “Father of the Coast Guard” Yeaton to its New London Connecticut Academy. The Coast Guard felt that if granted the body should be placed on Federal land as quickly as possible. After exhumation the morning of November 1, 1974, the remains were laid in the concrete vault at West Quoddy Head Lighthouse at 3:30 that afternoon.
