Description
This standpipe was built in 1898 to supply water to the city and firefighters. The standpipe was originally painted gray, then it received a white coat with lights. After America entered the war, it then was painted an olive color and the lights were removed to camouflage it and prevent pilots from seeing it during an aerial attack.
