Description
The Bangor Pilots Grill, located on Route 2, was established in 1939 by Paul Zoidis. Mr. Zoidis purchased the lot on Hammond Street across from the airport with a plan to open a restaurant, and in 1940 the Pilots Grill officially opened for business. Both of Paul’s brothers, Ernie and Peter, joined the staff of the popular restaurant to accommodate the growing demand. Pilots Grill was forced to move in 1945 and again in 1956 because of runway expansions at the airport. Sitting on eight acres of land, Pilots Grill became a Bangor institution. In November, 2002, Bill Zoidis reported that the Pilots Grill would be closing. People came from all around to have one last meal at the Bangor restaurant.
