Flood, Joppa looking north, Hallowell, 1923

Contributed by Hubbard Free Library

Description

Wingate Coal Company can be seen in the distance behind the third tree on the right. The Joppa section of Hallowell was one of the first places to flood during spring freshets. This photograph was taken between Elm Street on the left and Alfredo Masciadri's filing station and market on the right, just a few feet from the Kennebec River. High water in Fido's basement forecast the same for Joppa.
