Pollock net, Lubec, ca. 1954

Contributed by Lubec Historical Society

Description

This pollock fishing net was used from 1952 to 1956 in Lubec by Robert S. Peacock. Peacock supplemented his income by using the crane to lower the net in the water, using lighting at night to chum the pollock (and with herring cuttings from the sardine plant), and lifting the net and dumping the catch into a scoot trailer for transport to the Puss ’n Boots Cat Food plant at the south end of water street. He could fill a trailer (about 15 tons) in a night.
