Description

A saw mill on the St. John River in Fort Kent in about 1910.

A state-operated normal school to train teachers opened in Fort Kent in 1903 and a Carnegie public library opened in 1908, reflecting the cultural and educational services of the community.

The Fish River Railroad was built through the town in 1902, opening larger markets for lumber and potato products.
