A.E. Hammond's new mill, Van Buren, ca. 1915

Description

Allen E. Hammond, who had operated various mills in Van Buren, bought the controlling interest of the lumber mill on Violette Brook in 1901 and served as general manager and director of the mill.

He became sole owner in 1914 and operated the mill as Hammond Lumber Co. It burned in 1918 and was not rebuilt.

Hammond ran mills and other businesses in Van Buren for more than 40 years. His mills produced lumber, lath, clapboards, box shooks, and shingles.
