Main Street in Fort Kent with the Phillipe A. Roy General Store in the imposing Roy Block, built in 1920, in the middle of the photo.

Fort Kent is the northern terminus of U.S. Route 1, which begins in Key West, Florida.

The picture was taken by the Eastern Illustrating & Publishing Co., which took images for postcards.
