Description

Granite pieces too large to be sent by rail were shipped in one of the Hallowell Granite Works’ two schooners, the Jeremiah T. Smith and the Edward H. Smith, one of which is seen here. Transfer to the vessels was done using the crane at the granite loading wharf near the intersection of Water and Temple Streets. The site is now used for launching pleasure craft and recreation.
