Description

The F.W. Hill business block at 24 to 28 Central St. was designed by architect Wilfred Mansur in 1911 and occupied by the Mecca Spa and A. Zoidis & Bros. Fruit company. Second-floor businesses included the Central Beauty Shoppe and Queen City Real Estate Company. The building was demolished after a fire ca. 1980. During the Brady Gang shootings on Oct. 12, 1937, two FBI riflemen shot dead gangster Clarence Lee Shaffer Jr. from a second-floor window in this block.
