Description
The refreshment menu for a meeting of the Thursday Club, Biddeford, circa 1900. The menu is folded in a clever, decorative style and hand-written on printed Club stationary. Each meeting had a different topic or theme, and was arranged by different members. Early on most meetings had a literary theme in addition to other topics of the day including the arts, sciences, politics, and social issues. The women spent much time in creation and production of these materials for the weekly meetings. The interior of the menu, from the design to the choice phrases, was as impressive as the exterior, and shows the level of work expected from members.
