The Industrial School for Wayward Girls opened in Flagg-Dummer Hall on Winthrop Hill in 1875. The Baker Building, Erskine Hall and an administrative building were added at the turn of the twentieth century. The complex became the State School for Girls in 1915 and continued housing girls until the early 1970s. The Central Building, pictured above, was constructed between 1917 and 1919. In 2010 the site contained a Maine State Prison pre-release center and state offices.
