Contributed by Hubbard Free Library

Description

Ferry Hill in Chelsea rises high above the Kennebec River. Booms and logs managed by the Hallowell Steam and Boom Company occupied the Chelsea side of the river. Logs were sorted by owner's brands and then towed to lumber mills in Gardiner. The State Insane Hospital and Augusta Armory can be seen in the upper right.
