A. F. Morse Variety Store, Hallowell, 1896

Description

Groups of Hallowell citizens are standing in front of the A. F. Morse Variety Store on Water Street during the Kennebec River flood of early March 1896.

The Brick Block that was constructed in 1878 is to the left. This intersection of Water and Union Streets is the highest ground in the Hallowell business section.

George F. Morse is the man to the far left. Augustus F. Morse was one of Hallowell's premier photographers in the late 1800s.
