Description
This home in North Turner belonged to J. Frank Quimby. He was chairman of the Turner Board of Selectmen. He was in the Legislature in 1911 and 1913 and there introduced the measure for the incorporation of Leavitt Institute, the Turner high school. Few men not practicing law possessed the legal knowledge Mr. Quimby had. He was appointed a trial justice by Gov. Percival P. Baxter. His wife Mrs. Althea B. Quimby, was well known for her work and leadership of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union. One of his sons was Bates College Professor F. Brooks Quimby who was an uncommonly gifted teacher. Another son, Dr. Clarence P. Quimby was very prominent in education, he was headmaster at Cushing Academy and was a school administrator for more than 50 years.
