Mill Creek, Islesboro, ca. 1900

Contributed by Islesboro Historical Society

Description

Mill Creek opens into Gilkey Harbor, part of Penobscot Bay, and is therefore tidal. At the turn of the 20th century, the settlement of Mill Creek consisted of houses, a coal wharf, grist mill, stores and a school. The houses remain today, and the wharf pilings can still be seen at low tide.
