The two-masted schooner Charles E. Sears was the last of Lubec's locally built commercial carriers. Launched on November 26, 1874 by builder Robert Mugford at Jeremiah Kennedy's yard, the vessel was in service until 1905 when it was sold. Howard W. Allen captained the vessel from 1896 to 1905. It was stranded in January, 1906 on Chatham Bar, Cape Cod.
