Description

George Washington Pierce wrote to his brother Josiah in Gorham about the political climate in Washington in December 1828.

Andrew Jackson had been elected in November and there was speculation about his cabinet and other changes.

Pierce noted that Maine Senator John Chandler of Monmouth "has a very different standing & character here from what his constituents are willing to award him."

Pierce also reports on his visit to George Washington's home at Mount Vernon.
